some photos from my visit to the grand canyon and the drive there. i'd forgotten how quickly arizona's terrain can change in the north. you find yourself in a forest then over the next hill are in a field of dry weeds with nothing but a lone tree for miles. having spent so much uninterrupted time in cities these past few months, the constant changing landscape and wide open spaces provided perfect visual stimulation. it was like hitting the refresh button on my eyes and seeing the world around me in a new way.
the grand canyon itself is as awe-inspiring as i remember it. almost difficult to fathom. humbling to say the least. not to sound entirely cheesy, but things of this magnitude overwhelm my senses and give me a great deal of perspective. solutions to the annoying issues that plague you come so easily when you feel dwarfed by a chasm in the earth, carved over billions of years by something as yielding as water.
as for the outfit, i was pretty much the only person not wearing hiking sneakers and ill-fitting shorts, which i found odd because there isn't any actual hiking involved (unless you brave the four day hike down, through and back up the canyon, which most people don't). otherwise, it's a two minute walk from your parked car on a paved trail. personally, i liked the feeling of wearing something colorful, comfortable and wispy. and not being as boring as everyone else is always a plus. ;)
