i definitely enjoy a good instagram photo. the app gets a lot of flack from people who like to take themselves too seriously, but whatever, it's fun. (some people don't like fun, i've found) sure, it's not the epitome of art or anything like that, but there's a different sort of relationship a person has with their phone camera as opposed to their real camera. i've had moments when i was walking on the street and saw something i had to capture, but unfortunately did not have my real camera with me. the immediacy of a cell phone camera lends itself well to that "fly by the seat of your pants" feel that can be quite refreshing. and when you're a highly visual person, it's nice having a reason to point, shoot and share. being able to produce an interesting image with just a cell phone and some kitschy filters is a skill all its own. people love to say things like: "i like instagram because it can make the crappiest photo look good." but trust me, i've seen enough instagram accounts to tell you that's not true. a bad photo on instagram is just a bad photo with a crappy filter.
so anyway, here are some of my favorite instagrams from the past few months. and if you feel inclined, you can follow me there. my username is kristyelena.
